Hello everyone,
At the beginning of this year, I joined an anti-ableism movement in Amsterdam. We have formed a working group to fight ableism, in cooperation with the Municipality of Amsterdam.
Ableism is a form of discrimination in which people with disabilities are disadvantaged, marginalized, or stigmatized based on their physical, mental, or sensory conditions. The concept is similar to terms like racism and sexism but specifically focuses on the unequal treatment of people with disabilities.
Ableism is rooted in the idea that non-disabled people are the norm, and that people with disabilities deviate from this norm and must adapt. This leads to exclusion, prejudice, and a denial of equal opportunities.
We are now hosting a community gathering (borrel), and everyone who wants to join is more than welcome!
Invitation: Community Borrel – New Anti-Ableism Movement Amsterdam 🎉
Dear all,
We warmly invite you to the very first Community Borrel on Friday, July 4, 2025, at De Boeg in Amsterdam West!
Since the beginning of this year, a number of people have come together to form a group that is committed to fighting ableism in Amsterdam – the discrimination of people with disabilities. We do this with the support of New Pack Inclusion Creators and the Municipality of Amsterdam.
During this event, we want to give the community and our wider network the chance to get to know us as a group. You’ll have the opportunity to learn about our mission and share your own ideas.
