Media laden…
Hello everyone,
I’ve been getting a few questions about whether you can use iDEAL to support creators on Patreon — and I get it! iDEAL is the main payment method in the Netherlands, so I decided to make a small post about it. Here’s a quick explanation.
Patreon unfortunately doesn’t support iDEAL or other direct bank transfers directly.
But it does support PayPal, and PayPal can be connected to ideal. That means you can still support creators using iDEAL indirectly.
When you check out via PayPal, you can choose whether to pay using your PayPal balance or directly from your bank account — no need to manually top up your PayPal.
This also works great if you don’t have a credit card and need to buy something where ideal isn’t accepted.
Thankfully, it is easy to set up an account on paypal.
PayPal also makes it easy to manage your subscriptions or repeated payments, just in case a platform makes it a pain to cancel (some platforms have to ask you a hundred times if your absolutely absolutely sure you want to cancel lol). Just go to your Wallet and then Automatic Payments. You can cancel or change your permissions at any time.
From now on this will also be in the important info post.
Hope this helps!
Yours,
ihab
