Media laden…
Hello everyone,
I wanted to take this opportunity to put the spotlight on someone very dear to me, my older brother.
For some context, Mo has a visual disability as well, but he used to have better vision than me.
In 2018, his vision kept getting worse and worse until finally he lost it completely.
Throughout my life, he has always been my role model, someone to look up to and strive towards.
In my step from special education to quote-unquote normal high school, he was there, already having gone through that step and lighting up the way. In my step from high school to university, he was also there. Always before me, being able to light up all the obstacles when it comes to doing things with a visual disability, showing all the obstakles my eyes weren’t able to see and showing me how to navigate them. In the journey from a student to a full-time worker, he is also there. Always having illuminated the path and showing me the way.
And should my vision also fade away, he will also be there, showing me the way. Proving anything and everything is possible. Always right there, whenever I might need him.
When that voice in the back of your mind starts saying something is difficult with low vision, maybe even impossible, I only have to think of Mo and that voice fades away into the back of my mind, where it belongs.
Thank you so much for everything and always being there. Know that everyone around you is always inspired by what you’ve accomplished and how you’ve done it.
